The killing of unarmed black and brown people at the hands of police must stop. As athletes committed to justice and equity, we stand alongside activists who are demanding an investment in our communities and a divestment from systems that harm us. Although policing, mass incarceration, and deportation have been used historically to terrorize the most vulnerable and marginalized in our society, we know that this is about our humanity and about our right to live. We must acknowledge our painful past and do everything in our power to change a system that’s working as it was designed to function. A system that puts money and property over people. A system that is spiritually bankrupt and in need of a radical transformation. We commit to being a part of a movement to build a more compassionate and just world. And we commit to doing everything in our power politically, spiritually and economically to ensure that we respect the inherent dignity within all of us.
